2018 Keepers of the Fire BBQ Contest

* People’s Choice Contest: Must be entered in the Open contest to compete in People’s Choice. Teams need to pass the Health Inspector field inspection the day of the event. The Health Inspection information to follow after application submission. Teams vying for the People’s Choice Contest will sell food to the public on Friday, July 13h starting at 5:00 PM and ending at 10:00 PM or when their food runs out. BBQ Bucks are used to purchase food from participating teams. Prairie Band Casino & Resort employees will handle all sales of BBQ Bucks. 1 BBQ Buck=$1. Prairie Band Casino Staff will pick-up BBQ Bucks at the conclusion of the selling period. BBQ Bucks will be counted and verified at the casino. Each team will receive 90% of their sales back during the awards ceremony. The top ten teams that earn the most BBQ Bucks will win People’s Choice Awards. $50.00 refund will be given at Awards Ceremony to active teams in the People’s Choice Contest. Deadline for entry June 14, 2018.
**Best Sauce Contest: Teams must be entered in Open Contest to enter sauce contest. Teams are limited to a total of four (4) sauce entries per team. Sauces will be labeled as “hot” or “mild” and will be judged as a tomato base. Sauces must be amateur sauces – not commercially available sauces. Sauces will be judged on Friday night from5:00 PM to 8:00 PM IN the Judging Tent. Sauces will be judged on unseasoned pork or crackers. Forty-eight (48) ounces of each sauce entry must be submitted. Sauces need to be turned in to sauce tent from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Friday, July 13, 2018. Details will be provided in team confirmation after entry. Winners will be announced at awards ceremony. Maximum limit is four (4) entries. Deadline for entry July 13, 2018.
***Best Side Dish Contest: Must be entered in Open contest to be entered in side dish contest. A side dish may be any bean, potato or vegetable. Must not contain more that 10% meat in the side dish. Examples are cheesy potatoes or BBQ baked beans. Side dish must be turned into judging in the container provided. The container must be closed at turn-in. You can turn in 6 separate portions or one large portion with enough for 6 judges. All entries must be prepared on site. Garnish rules are waived, but all must fit in container provided with the lid shut. Side Dish will be judged on Saturday, July 14, 2018. Turn-in time is from 2:00pm to 2:10pm. Side dish items can be cooked on charcoal, wood or gas grills. Winners will be announced at awards ceremony. Deadline for entry is July 13, 2018.
