Training Programs


TRIBAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The internship provides enrolled members of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and other tribal students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and offers on-the-job training in the casino and hotel industry.  The internship can be held for a maximum of 2 years with potential job placement at the casino within a position related to their major field of study. The goal is to have students learn the casino business with an emphasis in these 12 core competency areas:

Slots, Table Games, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Services & Retail, Food & Beverage and C-Store, Information Technology, Facilities, Security, Surveillance, Golf.

SCHEDULE

The intern will spend several weeks in each department. Spending the time shadowing leadership in each department that will include experience in and out of office work time, day and evening, and mostly on the feet with our guest. While learning how each department plays a key role in the success of the casino.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA)
  • Must be successfully attending a post-secondary institution and in the process of completing the first semester of sophomore-level or higher; or graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in the past 12 months within one or more of the following disciplines: Finance, Marketing, Business Administration, Human Resources, Hospitality Management, Criminal Justice, Golf Management, Information Technology, and Facilities Management
  • Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 within a discipline listed above.

HOSPITALITY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The Hospitality Internship provides college students or recent graduates the opportunity to gain valuable work experience, networking opportunities with industry professionals, and on-the-job training in the casino and hospitality industry. The internship can be held for a maximum of 2 years with potential job placement at the casino in a position related to their major field of study. The goal of the internship program is to have students learn about hospitality as it relates to casino business with an emphasis in these ten core competency areas:

  • Marketing & Events
  • Hotel Management
  • Food & Beverage Management
  • Culinary Arts
  • Human Resources
  • Security
  • Surveillance
  • Finance
    • Accounting
    • Bookkeeping
    • Audit
  • Information Technology
  • Planning & Analysis

  • Must be successfully attending a post-secondary institution or graduated with a Bachelor’s degree or technical certificate in the past 12 months within one or more of the following majors: Marketing, Entertainment Management, Human Resources, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Hospitality Management, Lodging Management, Culinary Arts, Food & Beverage Management, Finance, Information Technology, Data Analytics
  • Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher

TRIBAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

This program designed to mentor and provide career development for PBCR tribal preference team members. The program will help provide formal and informal training experiences to help gain leadership experience. There will be required reading, homework, testing and a final project. There is an expectation of high engagement, participation, and attendance. On the Job Training allows Team Members to gain in-depth experience in an area of interest, it also provides exposure to management level decision making, strategic planning, personnel management, departmental management.

DEALER SCHOOL

This paid training provides an accelerated avenue for those that may not possess prior experience as a Table Games Dealer, but are interested in learning and growing. Training participants are introduced to Blackjack, Side Bets, and other games as time allows. Training includes but is not limited to shuffling, card placement, money/chip handling, and guest service. If getting paid to play cards and interact with guests sounds exciting, dealing might be the career for you. We provide the training and practice needed to succeed. Students are paid for training; excellent attendance during class required. To be offered a Dealer position, you must pass an audition at the end of Dealer School.

GOAL

To create a structured path for those seeking to become a Table Games Dealer.

SCHEDULE

Prairie Band Casino & Resort Dealer School is to be determined. Once scheduled, mandatory training will be held daily, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week and 3 weeks long.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must successfully complete and pass a math aptitude test
